Mount Isa Mines Rodeo 2025: A Road Trip, Community Spirit & Big Rodeo Action
A Few Days On — And Reflecting on a Big Weekend
We’re writing this a few days after the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo, still unpacking the conversations, the atmosphere, and just how much this event brings together in one place.
Held from 8–10 August 2025 at Buchanan Park, the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo delivered exactly what it’s known for — full days of action, strong crowds, and a community that genuinely gets behind its rodeo.
The Road West: Townsville to Mount Isa
We left Townsville on 6 August with both the truck and the ute fully loaded with stock. When you’re heading to Mount Isa, you don’t take shortcuts — you come prepared.
We stopped in Julia Creek for dinner and camped the night, breaking the drive before rolling into Mount Isa the following day for bump-in at Buchanan Park.
That drive west always has a way of slowing things down in the best way — big skies, long roads, and the sense that you’re heading toward something that really matters to the region.

Bump-In Vibes: Easy, Social & Supportive
From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt right.
Stallholders were welcoming, social, and quick to help each other out — lending hands, sharing advice, and checking in to make sure everyone was sorted. That kind of behind-the-scenes support makes a huge difference and set the tone for a great weekend.

What Was On: Three Days of Non-Stop Rodeo Action
Mount Isa Mines Rodeo isn’t a quick visit kind of event — it’s a full three-day program that keeps the arena busy and the crowd engaged from start to finish.
Across the weekend, spectators were treated to the classic mix of rodeo events that make Mount Isa such a drawcard, with action building through to Sunday’s Indigenous Rodeo Championships in the morning and open finals later in the day.
There was always something happening, no matter when people arrived, which made it easy to spend the whole day at the grounds.
Beyond the Arena: Entertainment, Atmosphere & Energy
What really sets Mount Isa apart is that it’s not just about the arena. The grounds themselves carried a festival feel all weekend — people catching up, families making a full day of it, and visitors exploring everything on offer.
Once the daytime events wrapped up, the atmosphere shifted rather than stopped. Evening entertainment kept people around, giving the nights their own rhythm and adding to that “make a weekend of it” feel Mount Isa does so well.
The Back Paddock
One of the standout additions was The Back Paddock — a relaxed, family-friendly space where people could slow down between sessions, enjoy performances, and soak up the social side of the event.
It quickly became a favourite spot for families and groups looking to enjoy the atmosphere without missing out on what was happening around the grounds.
What People Enjoyed Most

Chatting with visitors across the weekend, a few themes came up again and again. It wasn’t just one standout moment — it was how well everything worked together.
- Full days of rodeo action with something happening in the arena no matter when people arrived.
- The night-time atmosphere, where entertainment, food, and good company kept the energy going after dark.
- The Back Paddock vibe, giving people a place to relax, catch up, and enjoy the social side of the event.
- Making a full weekend of it — camping, staying in town, and treating the rodeo as more than just a few hours out.
- The sense of community, with locals, visitors, competitors and stallholders all mixing together.
It’s that balance — serious rodeo, strong entertainment, and a welcoming atmosphere — that keeps people coming back.
What Flew Out of the Truck
With both the truck and ute loaded, we were glad we came prepared. Stock moved steadily all weekend, with people knowing exactly what they were after.
Our big sellers included:
- OCC Mount Isa Rodeo Shirts
- Half button work shirts
- Jeans
- OCC caps
- Belt buckles
- Stubby coolers
- OCC Classic tees
Warm Days, Cold Mornings — Planning Ahead

Even with warm daytime temperatures, locals and visitors know that Mount Isa evenings and early mornings can turn cold quickly.
We had a great response to our oilskin vests, oilskin jackets, and hoodies, with plenty of people layering up for early starts and late nights.
Out here, dressing for the whole day matters — not just the warm part of it.
The Finder Service: Helping Stations Get What They Need
One of the strongest responses we had across the weekend was to our Finder Service.
Orders came in from cattle and sheep stations looking for bulk supplies — not just clothing, but the practical essentials that keep properties running.
We took orders for:
- Homestead cooking and cleaning products
- Bedding and toiletries for station staff
- Station infrastructure and yard equipment
- Bore pumps and irrigation fittings
- Machinery service parts
- Fertiliser bulker bags
- AdBlue
Being able to help farmers get the things they need, when they need them, is something we’re genuinely proud of.
People From Everywhere
Over the three days, we met people from all over Australia and from overseas as well — travellers, workers, rodeo fans, and first-timers experiencing Mount Isa for the first time.
It’s a reminder of just how far this event reaches, and how strongly it puts regional Australia on the map.
Time in Town & a Familiar Sign on the Way Out
Between rodeo days, we spent time around town and were reminded just how strong the Mount Isa community is — practical, welcoming, and proud.
And if you’re heading out of Mount Isa, chances are you’ll spot us — we’ve got a billboard sign out there. It’s a small but meaningful reminder that we’re part of the wider outback network.
