G’day — we’re Matt and Mel, the husband-and-wife team behind Outback Clothing Co, a business born from the dust, drought, and determination that define life on the land.

From Drought to Determination

We’ve spent most of our lives running cattle farms across regional Australia. Like many in the bush, we’ve weathered the tough years — the kind of droughts that dry up creeks, crack the soil, and test your spirit.

There was a time when we nearly lost everything. But giving up wasn’t in our nature. Instead, we decided to fight back — to rebuild, rethink, and find a way forward. That’s how Outback Clothing Co was born: from hardship, hard work, and a belief that the Aussie bush spirit can rise from anything.

Why We Started Outback Clothing Co

While working on cattle stations in the Kimberley, we met plenty of backpackers and new station hands turning up without the right gear — thin shirts that tore in the scrub, boots that didn’t last a season, and hats that offered no protection from the fierce northern sun.

“It’s hard to get decent, honest workwear out here.”

We heard the same thing from farmers, contractors, and station managers across the regions — so we rolled up our sleeves and decided to do something about it.
